"Magaji Locust bean - dorawa (dorowa), pi. dorayi (Parkia filicoidea). The locust-bean tree is very common in N. Nigeria, extending (according to Dalziel) to 14oN, being the most typical tree of the savannah parkland. The elaborately processed and fermented seeds or beans (kalwa) are made into strongly smelling blackish cakes or balls (daddawa, q.v.) which are an almost indispensable ingredient of Hausa (as of Nupe) cooking."
