Description
On Manual Listing: "Batagarawa and neighbourhood - the Katsina village which is the subject of 'Rural Hausa'.
2. P.H. [Polly Hill] Always thought of Bata [Batagarawa] (henceforth I abbreviate) as a 'miniature city'. As all the women were in Muslim seclusion and never went out of their houses during the day, except on special occasions, the walls were very high to prevent prying eyes from the road outside. (This seclusion was an innovation recently imposed by men in an attempt to impress those in the city.)" [Hill's caption]
