Description
A gravestone for a chief, standing in grassland in front of trees. The stone has a plinth and column, painted with a garland, and on which is inscribed the text: 'Here lies the remains of our beloved farther Chief Akpan Oton Uto A warrior politician and keen trader who died at Ibaku Itam on Nov 19 1939'. On top of the column is a dais on which a statue of the chief sits under a canopy. He is bare headed, with a tunic painted with polkadots, and a striped waist wrapper. He holds a staff in his right hand. [PB 22/11/2024]
