Description

A funerary monument in cement for two chiefs. Two figures are seated in a galley supported by two columns, with another figure seated on the ground between the columns.

The figure at ground level is painted with a plain short-sleeved tunic, and a chequer pattern waistcloth. On his chest is a cross hanging on a neckcord. The figure's right hand is held to his chest and his left resting on his lap.

The column on the left is painted in black, brown and white, with text on the lower panel that reads 'May his soul rest in peace' above an inverted crescent, and text on the upper panel that reads 'RIP. Ukana Uwo. In evergreen memory of Akapanaimo who gave up his ghost on 13 May 1955'. Above is a seated figure, in a single armchair, painted in black, white, brown and red, wearing a sun hat with wide brim, a jacket, striped tie, white trousers, and black riding boots, and holding a rifle on the ground in his right hand. The figure sits between narrow columns that support the roof of the monument.

The column on the right is painted in black, brown and white, with text on the lower panel that reads 'On 11th Dao 1953', and text on the upper panel that reads 'Ukana Uwo. In the loving memory of A prominent Chief Akpom Oruk Etoh who died _'. Above is a seated figure, on a bench, painted in black brown and white, wearing a sun hat with wide brim, long sleeved striped shirt, and a long chequer pattern skirt. The figure has a bandolier from his right shoulder to his left hip. He holds a ceremonial wand in his right hand. [PB 21/11/2024]
