'A memorial for a Englishman called Henry John St. John in front of the Assistant Governernment Agents Bungalow at Hambanthota has been declared as an archaeological monument. It has been built around 1821 by the friends of the diseased. Henry John was born in 1798 as the third son to parents of British general  Frederick St John (20 December 1765 — 19 November 1844)  and Arabella Craven. He had just arrived had been appointed Assistant to the Collector on February 1 , 1821. He died on from a fever during a shooting excursion on 7th August, 1821 aged 23.'
