Description
An Ugbom headdress depicting a seated female figure holding a rectangular object on her head. The figure is carved of wood and she is sitting on a wooden stool. The face of the figure is angular and consists of a rounded head but with sharp angles. The figure has a high forehead with keloid markings in the centre and at the sides of the temples; slit eyes, nose and an exaggerated protruding mouth. The upper torso consists of neck, large, full breasts, arm extended upward holding the object on top of the head, protruding umbilicus, rectangular scarification marks orunding down the centre of her chest and around the back. The legs are bent and she is sitting on a stool, There is basket work frame at the bottom. [Description from record P.72109.GIJ, PB 29/09/2023]
