Description

A documentation photograph of an Ugbom headdress. The female figure is seated. The figure is carved of wood and consists of a rounded face with sharp angular markings; the top of the head depicts an arched curved coiffure,the face is stylised with a central mark on the forehead, slit eyes, nose, keloid marks on the side of the cheek, ears, and protruding open mouth, neck with circular marks for necklace, pert, rounded breasts, and arms bent to the sides with bracelets around the wrists. One hand is open and shows the palm; the other is clenched. The figure is seated on a wooden stool with her knees bent and feet perched on the base which is attached to a basketwork frame. The shadow of the figure is depicted in the screen behind it. In the background are buildings and trees. [Description from record P.72057.GIJ, PB 29/09/2023]
