Description
An Obugulu Mau costume with a wooden headdress, on display in an exhibition.
The costume is now in the care of MAA, reference Z 13527.1-2, and described as: "Costume is in red cotton with ribbon of felt and cotton in white, yellow, black and green roughly stitched with wool. Blue roughly woven sock and white and brown mittens. The face of the mask is painted white and black with red lips. The decorations on the crown are painted black, blue, red and white. The mask represents Mmanwu Adanma 'beauty spirit' a maiden spirit in the Obugulu Mau or 'ghost' masquerade." [PB 22/09/2023]
