Description

A close up view of an Ikem masquerade female head mask on top of a table . The mask is very naturalistic and shows refined features. It is not painted yet. The hair is in an elaborate coiffure made of twisted or curved “horns”. The hair is fringed by a band with studs above the forehead and temples. The side profile of the face shows eyebrows, inset eyes, nose, and lips. The ears are carved with earrings. The cords to attached to the head of the masquerader hang from the bottom of the mask. Behind the table a person is standing with hands on a chair. In the background are children standing in front of a building. [PB 22/09/2023]
