Description
Obugulu mau masquerade. A portrait of the character agaba standing with legs akimbo and leaning towards the camera. The masquerader has a wooden face mask with an elaborate superstructure of carved human figures, birds and animals with patterned ribbons hanging down. The face is painted white with eyebrows and cheeks marked in dark. he mouth is open with large pointed teeth giving the character as fierce expression. The masquerader is wearing a tunic and trousers covered in interlocking shells. He is carrying a matchete-shaped stick in his right hand. Alongside are attendants and in the background spectators and trees. [PB 14/09/2023]
