Description
Close-up view of the top three sections each of two carved mahogany panels attributed to Areogun of Osi, and on display against a brick wall. The six panels seen depict Yoruba people in scenes reflecting daily life including kneeling women making offerings and chiefly figures on horseback and riding a bicycle. The screen on the left shows (top to bottom): A kneeling woman making an offering, holding a gourd container. One man holds a string of kola nuts and an umbrella over the woman. Another man is smoking a pipe.
A man holding a spear, riding a horse with elaborate cowrie shell harness, to which is attached a small naked male figure.
A man, possibly the trickster Eshu, riding a bicycle and smoking a pipe. Two other men stand on the wheels.
The screen on the right shows (top to bottom): Three women, one kneeling with a gourd container, one standing with a basket on her head, and one sitting with child in a sling on her back.
A chief sitting in a chair, with a woman making an offering to him. A second man holds a fan, another an umbrella, and a fourth drinks from a cup.
