Description

A documentation photograph of an image showing a stylised Igbo headdress from the ekpe (leopard men’s society) masquerade. The head is carved in a stylised angular mode. The facial features consist of eyes as projecting cones, pointed nose, rectangular boxed mouth with teeth, rounded ears; the lower jaw is framed with a conventionalised beard and lines of keloids are represented vertically on the forehead and on each temple and diagonally across each cheek. The top of the head has projecting horns? squares and rectangular markings. The head has a wooden base with twine wrapped around it. [Description from record P.72289.GIJ, PB 18/08/2023]
