Description

Close-up photograph of a carved wooden box in the shape of a leopard on display in an exhibition. The leopard is seen in profile with it's tail arching towards the back of the neck and forms a handle. A child visiting the exhibition is looking at the camera. [PB 31/08/2023]

The box is now in the care of MAA, reference Z 13527.1-2, and described as: "Icota. Large wooden box and lid shaped like a leopard standing on all fours with the tail curled over the back of the body and forming the handle. The male genitals are clearly carved at the rear and below the body, as are the bared teeth, tongue, eyes and ears on the head. The whole body is painted white with indented spots and incised ring patterns painted black. The tip of one of the ears is missing." [Description from object record Z.13527.1-2, PB 25/08/2023]
