Description
Onyema Ogadi masquerade consisting of two masqueraders with boy’s mau (spirit masks). The masks are painted white with black markings to accentuate the eyebrows, nose, and mouth. There are small black circles dotted underneath the eyes, nose and chin. The forehead is painted black with incised striations denoting hair. On top of each mask is long raffia “hair”. The mask on the right has two dark horns jutting out.
The masqueraders are wearing striped, woven costumes with raffia skirts; the arms of the masquerade on the left are stretched out and on other the arms are placed on the hips. In the background in the right of the photograph are ‘attendants’ with white feathers in their hair and one is holding a musical instrument.
