Description

Formal group portrait of an extended Nayar family, consisting of nine children sitting crossed-legged at the front on a mat, ten women wearing white saris standing behind them, and ten men standing at the back. The head of a woman or child can just be seen between the shoulders of the two central men.
In the background is a tile-roofed verandah of a building. [JD 27/07/2023]

Found in an envelope now marked C104/4/ which has photographs of the Nayars from South India. C104/5/ was inside the envelope now marked C104/ which was in the wooden drawer numbered IV

P.36595 to P.36617 are photographs of synagogues, houses, temples of the Nayars, Nambudris and the Jews of Kerala. It is proabable that these were given to Hutton by L.K. Ananthakrishna Iyer, though they were found without any references. [SG 17/8/1999]

Two prints were assigned as P.36595.; the second print has now been reassigned the IDNO P.167104.ACH1 [JD 05/07/2023]
