Register 1947. Board painted on one side with a human figure and a lizard on the other. Carried out in black, yellow and brown on a white ground. Represents Wondjina and goanna with eggs.
From the Ungarinyin, Sale River, Kimberley district, Western Australia. For exchange see correspondence (Dr. Petri, 1939). Acquisition date 1947. Acquisition notes
Exchanged with the Institut fur Kultur-Morphologie, Frankfurt (per Dr. Petri, 1939). See correspondence (Dr Petri, 1939) Dr. Helmut Petri was the leader of a German expedition to the Kimberley region of Western Australia in 1938. The expedition was organised by the Frobenius Institute of Frankfurt. It is likely that this painting was acquired during the expedition.
