"29, 30, 31. Interior of house at Kalabu. Hanging kondu drums, and carved clan figures (ngwalndu). Carved and painted figures representing ngwalndu or clan spirits housed in men's ceremonial house in village of Kalabu. Sepik District. Although clan figures are often usually indistinguishable one from another, their clan arms identify each by his name. These clan spirits are responsible for fertility in nature especially as manifested in the extra big yams grown up to '2 ft." [Poignant's typed text]
