Poignant, A. and Poignant, R. 1976. Children of Oropiro. London: Angus and Robertson, p.9. This extract is from a children's book about children named Eti, Timi, and Sylviane and their life in Raiatea:"In the coconut grove Ro'o and Eti examined the strings of coconuts hanging on loops of hibiscus bark to dry in the wind. Although each nut had been split open, the fibrous husk held the two parts together. This is the simplest way to make copra.
Father chipped out the hard flesh of one of the nuts with his curved blade. They had been drying there about a week.
'They are almost dry enough,' he told Eti. 'Yes, it will soon be ready.
However it would take several days to finish making the copra and bag it ready for market.
'We'll start that job the day after tomorrow,' said Father." [KK 03/01/2023]
