Description
Documentary photograph of "Frog in haematite, (2) frog (Chinese) in lapis lazuli. (3) quartz lip ornament (Uganda), (4) [African] head in black material. (5) small double gourd in ivory. All except those named are from Smyrna."
The labaret is now in the care of the MAA, reference 1927.292, and described as:
"Labret; lip plug - Labret of white stone. Bukedi - W. of Mount Elgon.
NB. Additional note pasted to catalogue card reads: Pallela or lip ornament worn by the Bakede on and about Mount Elgon. The women pierce the lower lip and push this in the hole." [Description from record 1927.292, JD 25/02/2020]
