Description
Documentary photograph of a "Relic case containing umbilical cord and jaw of an ancient Uganda king." The exterior of the case is covered with cowrie shells.
The case is in the care of the MAA, reference Z 16510, and described: "Balongo; Omulongo. Charm with the umbilical cord of a deceased king. Container is oval in shape and made of leather; container is decorated with rows of cowrie shells. At one end are two wide leather straps one with a ring of cowrie shells, and multiple strands of blue glass beads." [Description from record Z 16510, JD 03/02/2020]
