Description

On Catalogue Card for duplicate print P.7160.ACH1: "Woman making palm oil."

This is probably a posed photo, possibly for humour?, as palm oil is not produced in this way. The nut is very hard and would cut the woman's feet. It is more likely the nut has just been harvested and brought back in the canoes from trees across the river. The nut is boiled in order to extract the oil.
