'Libyan Notes' (MacMillan & Co., London), pl.V.2, 3 & 5, and captioned: "In Plate V. 1, 2, 3, 5 are figured examples which show the chief types in use; there is little variety among them, the makers evincing no sort of inventive spirit. Almost every piece is studded with lumps of coral, and its market value is in proportion to their number and size. The surfce of the silver is generally engraved with some skill; the origin of the patters however it is difficult to trace, as they are evidently much degraded from the original motives whatever these may have been."
