"Exploring The Gold Coast
Photographic report by Dr. M. Fortes.
Buying and Selling in the Gold Coast (5). The crowds, on pleasure bent, consume huge quantities of cooked dainties. Every market place has a row of "kitchens" on the outskirts where these dainties are prepared for sale piping hot.
Picture shows: "A corner of a "kitchen". The woman in the foreground is preparing a particularly popular dainty, fried dumplings of maize flour, prepared in a special pot made a mould to hold 5 to 6 dumplings at a time." [Fortes' annotation]
