Description

“A sickly infant.” [Fortes' Annotation]

Full-length portrait of two young girls and a 'sickly infant'. The eldest girl wears a double waistband, and carries an emaciated infant on her right hip. The infant stares at the camera, her ribs and bones plainly visible. On the other side of the eldest girl stands a younger girl, who wears a waistband and a necklace. Scarification is visible on her right cheek, two parallel lines running from the inside of her nose down to her jawbone. [IG 5/8/2008, description from record N.107470.MF, JD 08/11/2017]
