Description

On Strathern's listing: Garden being cut down preparatory to clearing, by owners of bush: Pundukl, Kaep and Rop.
Working fence posts, Puklum’s father (Pundukl) in foreground, Rop in background. The immediate bushes around (with long leaves) are cordylines (Pidgin tangket), which provide leaves for men’s bustles, are used as boundary markers, planted in ceremonial grounds, and serve as an important ‘divination substance’ for a tribe – across the Hagen area, men swearing oaths hold a cordyline leaf or branch.
