Description
View of a laung-zat (paddy boat) moored on possibly the ?Thanlwin River, Mawlamyine. These traditional Burmese river vessels were used to transport rice to Yangon (formerly Rangoon). In the 19th century rice was Burma's main agricultural crop and its largest export. The boat has a distinctive profile of a long, narrow hull, with a high stern, and lower bow swept up from the bottom.
In the foreground is a small wharf and foliage from a tree. [JD 04/03/2023]
