On Catalogue Card: "New Britain, Bismarck Archip.
Mask-House, Labangesarum.
Exhib. of masks & carvings at feast in honour of dead relatives.
Upper row of bird-masks (‘Kepong’) represent dead persons, not used in dancing, but worn by relatives in a slow walk about the village.
Lower row of face masks (‘Tatanua’), used in dancing in honour of the dead.
NB. Below a canoe(?) is hanging, fastened in front with fibres & cords to the trunk of a tree, the upper part of which represents a dog’s head.
