XXII Tongaru, man of Gazelle Peninsula.
Full grown man with the usual razed beard, a double row of ornamental scars on forehead and cheeks as well as on the stomach, a large number of shell-rings on one of the arms, made of a species of ‘Trochus’ and called ‘Lalai’. He wears a frontlet and a bush of feathers as head-ornament (compare R. Parkinson: In the Bismark Archipelego’, 1887, p.110 sq.9 plate facing p.136)." [JD 09/11/2021]
