Description
Watercolour of two objects, probably both now held in the MAA Collections.
Firstly is a Birch wood box depicted both open and closed. The box, which was probably used to keep butter in a tent, or carried in a knapsack, consists of sides formed of birch wood, fastened together with split bird's quills. Top and bottom are formed of wood. There is geometric designs on the box lid.
Secondly is a knife in a leather sheath depicted as the knife in the sheath, the back side of an empty sheath, and the knife by itself. The sheath appears to be made of leather and decorated wood?; and the knife has birch bark and wood inserts in the antler? handle. [JD 3/2/2011]
