On Catalogue Card: "Saibai.
2 slides of Mawa masks (one with eye-slits to look through)." [manuscript in ink]
Documentary photograph of a wooden mawa mask made by Paneta and belonging to the Umai and Daibau augud of Saibai and now held in the collections of the British Museum. It appears as though Haddon took a copy of this photograph back to the Torres Strait in 1898 and gained information about the mask from Maino. [JD 18/5/2011]
