House of natives.
This type of house is a poor copy of the ‘S.S.’ type, & not very much better than the original type." [manuscript in ink]

Portrait of two Tudu men, Banu on the left, and Komri on the right and a woman standing in front of a thatch house. Banu is holding a gabagaba (club), and is wearing shorts, an ornamented woven armband on each arm and a dibidibi (shell neck ornament). Komri is wearing striped shorts, ankle dance ornaments, a dibidibi and ?Kadik (armguards). Standing next to him is a woman wearing a skirt. Related Archive: Haddon writes of his first visit to Maino’s village on Tud on the 14th August 1888, "After passing the north of the lagoon we came to the King’s village. After a little persuasion we induced them to get up a koppa-koppa or native dance for us. Being my first sight of one I was naturally much interest but there were too few people & it was too hurriedly arranged for it to be very successful. 2 men & about 8 women & girls danced ..." (1888, p.10)
It more likely that Haddon took this series of portraits between 28 - 30th October, when he writes; "Maino was very pleased to see me & I him & I spent the greater part of the three days I was there with him at his camp." (1888, p.64) [JD 17/5/2011, from record P.23326.ACH2, JD 6/20/2016]
