Description
On Catalogue Card: "Mabuiag
Two old midwives" [manuscript in ink]
Two midwives stand side-by-side facing the camera, each with a young boy in front of them. Their hands rest on the boys’ shoulders. All of people in the portrait wear Western dress except for the boy on the right.
Full-length portrait of probably Gugui and Aun, two Mabuiag Island women who are annotated as being midwives. Both women are in their forties, wear Missionary dresses, and face the camera. The woman on the left has her hands resting on a small girl's shoulders, the woman on the rights’ hands rest on the shoulders of a small boy. In the background is a thatched house.
