Other Information

Publication: Printed in Reports I: Plate IX, fig. 3
This photograph shows Tom one of the Islanders who worked most with the Expedition on Mabuiag. E.g. "I made most satisfactory progress by working with one of the younger men who acted as our chief assistants, Waria (1), Tom (9A) or Peter (6)" (Rivers in Reports V: 123). The bracketed numbers refer to the genealogical tables. Several other photographs exist of Tom (see above). [Jude Philp 6/2/1998, from record P.705.ACH1, ID 1/3/2012]

Context: This type of photograph served the dual purpose of being a momento/studio portrait for the sitter and a record of the sitter for the physical anthropological and ethnographic work of the Expedition (Myers 1898). [Jude Philp 6/2/1998, from record P.705.ACH1, ID 1/3/2012]
