Summer scene on the plains area of the Lower Murray River with small groups of women collecting the roots of the reeds (Typha slothenheymii) in shallow swamps. These roots are the staple vegetable food throughout the high summer period. The small secondary roots are taken off, after which the roots are tied into bundles and put on to heated lumps of earth.
