Description
Birds eye view of the Ugyen Pelri Palace and on the small hill across the paddy field is the Gangtey Palace. This picture is taken from Olathang. The Ugyen Pelri place have been built by Paro Penlop Tshering Penjor, in 1930. Its architecture is unique and it is said to be a replica of the heavenly adobe of Guru Rinpoche This is now the residence of the Queen's mother. The Gangtey palace was once the residence of the Paro Penlope Dawa Penjor. He was the uncle of the first King of Bhutan and Kusho / Penlop(Governor) of Paro Valley. This 19th century palace-style building is now converted into one of the most charming hotels in Paro. On the left is an apple tree with fruits. [Dawa Dem 7/9/2009]
