Description

Paka anak Otor stands in front of a small display area in his house, posing for the camera. He wears a long-sleeved shirt and trousers, and a stagan (leopard teeth ritual necklace worn by men) around his neck.
Mounted on the wall behind him is a small pendulum clock, with two sheathed ?swords mounted behind and beneath it. Above the clock is a row of naval plaques. In the wall space to Paka’s left are suspended several bead and rattan bands, probably used as arm or leg accessories, two sepiya (women’s ritual round cloth hats with back flaps) and a circular sembun (bead necklace). The rest of the wall is filled with framed photographic portraits, mostly of Paka’s father, Otor anak Sunjam. The photograph of the old man on the top left shows Paka’s grandfather. The leftmost bottom photograph shows a Japanese family who made friends with Otor’s family.
Next to Paka is a low wicker coffee table with curved legs and a bottom platform. On it are a few shallow ceramic bowls and miniature ‘plants’.
