Publication: Published as fig. 27 in The Todas, captioned the ‘palol’ Karkievan, saluting at Modr. He is standing in the ‘Pepkarmus’. The building next to the ‘Palol’ is the ‘Ti Poh’; that on the right is the ‘Karenpoh’, and between it and the ‘Ti Poh’ can be seen the hut where the inhabitabts of the ‘Ti Mad’ sleep (1906: 95). [S. Expedition: Rivers acknowledged that he knew the dairy at Modr the best, as he visited it on many occassion. However, he was never allowed to go near the walls enclosing the dairies, or inside the buildings. He obtained his information from two former palols (of Nodrs and Kars), owing to ‘the restrictions on intercourse with so sacred personage as a palol’, He mentioned that he did clarify with Karkievan, when he visited Modrs, on points about which the ex-officials were in doubt (see 1906: 83-95).
