Description
Kai Colo chief - ?brother to Nabukatavatava [P.99987.VH]. See P.87325.VH. [Fergus Clunie, 14/7/2003]
Head and shoulders studio portrait of an untamed Kai Colo or Vitilevu highlander, obviously close kin to Nabukatavatava of the Koroqaqa - see P.87203 & P.87204. He is wearing a whale ivory saunidaliga ear ornament in the slit and distended lobe of his right ear, and a necklace strung with two rows of white trade beads. Early 1870s.
