Description

F.H. Dufty studio portrait of a Fijian man wearing Christian cerenmonial or war dress, with a liku overskirt masking his malo loincloth, buttocks and thighs from the waist down. He has an ornamental comb in his hair, a batinivuaka boar tusk pendant with beaded strings at his throat, and is holding a gata club. His upper arms and calves are braced by vesasausauwai wrappings fringed with trade beads, and he has a chiefly iwabale shoulder sash and fringed white barkcloth maloyara or train looped to the girdle of his malo.
