Two studio portraits of two young chiefs of Tonga-Viti or part Tongan extraction, with comparatively short hairstyles of types acceptable to the Wesleyans.
The top image is of a youth wearing a necklet of white trade beads and a white barkcloth iwabale sash. Round his waist is buckled a broad leather belt with the popular belt wallet of the day, the isulu lacking pockets.
The bottom image is of a youth holding an iulatavatava throwing club, wears a batinivuaka boar tusk throat pendant and an iwabale sash of oiled and smoked barkcloth. His white malo loincloth is worn tied high up under his rib cage in the challenging malowala style, and he has its trailing train wound round him. Round his waist he wears a black likusausauwai kilt.
