Description
F.H. Dufty studio portrait of a Fijian man with oiled hair, dressed in war or ceremonial dress, with a fringed white barkcloth iwabale shoulder sash, similar waist sash, and with a striped and pleated pandanus leaf liku overskirt over his malo loincloth. The muscles of his legs below the knees are braced by braided black vesasausauwai wrappings, the fringes of which are studded with trade beads. He holds an iulatavatava throwing club. Circa 1876.
