Studio portrait of a young and unmarried woman, as indicated by the myriad of tobe plaits falling to her left shoulder. Her hair ornament is topped by a bedraggled peacock(?) feather. Her breasts are covered by a white barkcloth iwabale shoulder sash, and she wears a broad barkcloth waistband embellished with greenery over her cotton print isulu wrap-around skirt. She is holding a feather duster.

P.99726.VH to P.100050.VH were in the belted folder now numbered C539/3/. This was formerly kept in paper archive Large Box G; VH1/4/5. It has now been transferred to the photo archive. The lists describing the contents of this box have been returned to the Paper Archive.

Photographer: The use of a feather duster? is recognisable as a studio prop used by the Duftys’ Studio circa 1875 - 1876. The Photographer, Date, and Place fields have been amended accordingly. [JD 26/3/2012]
