Description

See P.100073.VH. [Fergus Clunie, 14/7/2003]

F.H. Dufty photograph of Toko village on the South East coast of Ovalau, with men dressed in make-believe Fijian war costume but armed with a medley of Melanesian weapons supposedly menacing each other in the foreground while a group of women look on. Instead of a qato or trochus shell armband, one has what looks like a large ring from the Solomon Islands round his upper arm. Early 1880s?
