Description

A high chief’s house at Tavuki, Kadavu island. Though furnished with a wooden door and six paned window sash, it is otherwise traditional Fijian, proclaiming high status via it raised stone-faced yavu mound with cleated ramp leading up to its doorway, and the white bulidina cowry shells covering the long projecting ends of its ridge-pole and studding the long ropes that fall from the ends of the ridge-pole to the ground - which last feature used to be characteristic of some burekalou or spirithouses.
