Description

Posed studio portrait of a younger and older Arawak women wearing strands of beaded neck ornaments and beadwork aprons. The women’s figures have been superimposed onto a jungle scene in which the women stand in front of a river where a row boat is moored. On the opposite shore is a thatched open-sided building, with jungle vegetation in the background. [JD 3/5/2007]

The two women pictured seem to have been placed in front of a different background. Presumably the photo was taken in a studio and the village scene in the background was later added. [S. Guha 17/11/2004]
