Documentary photograph of a tapa (barkcloth) from New Britain, now in the care of MAA, reference 1954.97: "Barkcloth - Barkcloth. Probably from the Arawe. Original accession notes reads: 'Piece of bark cloth with freehand black and red pattern of lines and scrolls'."
"This object was previously in the collection of Harry Geoffrey Beasley, no.3595 A. It is recorded in Beasley's original acquisition register (vol.3) as: 'N. GUINEA. SEPIK: - Two pieces native tapa cloth. Red & brown. Bought: - Rev. F. Bishop. Melanesian Mission and collected by him 1934-35.' It was purchased on 8 March 1935."
