Description

On Mamen's listing: Of the N.W. Hingan, Upper Bistraya. 1931,
67. Olga Dimitrivna, close, as Shaman. mid Martielkoi. 26/11.

Mamen’s description: “Olga Dimitrivna.”

“A very clever, both respected and feared shamaness by others. [...] Her dress was made by various members of the tribe. The widow [who nomadized together with Olga’s] embroidered the broad chamois leather panels and Olga’s brother, a skilful smith, had forged the iron pendants representing spirits-animals and parts of the human body. Small sleigh-bells, which add to the clang of metal when the Shamaness dances, were obtained through the traders.” (E.J.Lindgren 1935: 222, 227). [U. Borjigin 28/10/2002]
