Mamen’s description: “Lamas in front of main temple (woman carrying prayers).”
This is the main temple (gol dugang) of Ganjur monastery. The women carrying prayers is shown in different parts of the monastery both in Mamen’s and Lindgren’s photos. What the women doing is called “going around the compound”(goroo ergihu) of a monastery, main hall of a monastery and stupas. In the photo, the woman is carrying a sutra, which might possibly be Ganjuur because it was Ganjuur monastery and holding the counting beads. She is wearing formal clothes and head-dress. This photo was taken in the time of monastery summer ceremony when it was the favourite time for people to go around the compound. [U. Borjigin, 1/7/2002]
