Description
On Mamen's listing: The Ganjur Fair, Barga 1931.
11. Jamserai Sangin (full). 14/9.
Mamen’s Description: “Jamserai Sangin” [manuscript in pencil].
Sangin here should have been spelled as Jangin and it was a Manchu word used as a title for the head governor of a sum (district). In contrast to the Solon Jangins in a seal festival, this Jangin is in ordinary clothes in the days of fair which can be assumed that was not a formal occasion. He is briefly tying a white towel around his head, wearing a pouch for snuff bottle from his belt. He is counting his beads when he is walking. He looks, from his clothing, a local New Barga Jangin.
From Lindgren’s photo collection, we can see that she did not do household and extensive investigation in New Barga except at the Ganjur Fair that took place in the area. [U. Borjigin, 22/5/2002]
