Mamen’s description: “Chinese food shop, Mushroom drying (3 Chinese in the foreground) at Ganjur Fair.”
The Chinese Eight Large Shops of Hailar were the main dealers in Ganjur Fair. They would go to the Ganjur Fair with Mongolian yurt. The so-called Chinese street in Ganjur Fair are a row of Mongolian yurts. The signs seen in Lindgren and Mamen’s photos are like “Yong Mao He” (ever prosperous and peaceful), “Rui Xing Tai” (Lucky, prosperous and peace), “Da Jin Lai”(greatly comes the gold) etc. Even if it is said that this is a food shop, there are boots and caps on the table, and cart wheels are seen behind. The clothes of the two of the Chinese are still Manchu style of ordinary clothes except their shoes are Chinese. The one behind to the left is wearing Chinese cotton wool padded trousers and binding the end of the legs.
Mushrooms in Hulun Buir are very nutritious and tasty and they flourish in circle around the old camp grounds in Autumn when it is just the rainy season in the area. [U. Borjigin, 24/6/2002]
